Rethink Your Boundaries

Weak salespeople will tell you they don’t have time to prospect because they have too many other things to do. There are accounts to manage and clients to keep happy. You wouldn’t want them to lose hard-earned business would you? The CRM needs to be updated and there’s a team meeting coming up in just over an hour. The list goes on.

There will never be a lack of distractions in the day. This is a priority issue, and priorities need time blocks. If your calendar doesn’t have dedicated time on it for your most important selling activities, how can you guarantee they’ll get done?

During these blocks, are you unavailable and do you have your notifications shut off? Eliminate as many distractions as possible. Time on the calendar is one thing. Honoring those blocks is another.

You can come up for air after an hour. I promise your world won’t fall apart in the absence of little red circles on your phone.

You can’t let your priorities suffer because of the less important things that will go on with or without you. Could you provide your calendar as evidence in a court of law that you’re in sales?
